What is the Gospel?

It is the most incredibly good news! You can have a relationship with God! You never have to be lonely again. You can have the most powerful Being in the universe, who knows absolutely everything, advise you about every life decision you make. You can live in complete union with Him. Your life can be filled with the fruit of your relationship with Him – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. You don’t have to carry around your guilt and shame. You don’t have to make up for all those times when you have messed up, hurt others or disappointed yourself. Jesus is more than excited to trade His righteousness for your sin.

That’s right. The good news is that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you can experience this amazing life forever! It’s a most incredible offer. We get to trade our bad for God’s good. Now that is good news!!

When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we come into relationship with Christ. When this happens, our old self, who liked to sin and was a slave to sin, dies. Romans 6 says that who we used to be was crucified with Christ. With the death of our old “self”, we receive a new self. One who is pure, righteous and holy. One who loves God. We are adopted into God’s family as His children. He really likes being around us and spending lots of time with us. He loves it when we draw close to Him through means such as prayer, Scripture reading, meditation, fasting, praise, etc. He is so into us. He loves us so much!!!

It really is such incredibly good news!

In summary, Jesus Christ, the Son of the Eternal God and yet in substance God Himself, came to earth as a baby, grew into a man, preached to the poor, performed miracles, was persecuted by religious people in the name of the Eternal God, was nailed to a cross, was buried and three days later came back to life. He did all this, so that you and I can be in communion with Him. Now that is good news!!!

Good news – because we get to be in a relationship with a God who is so GOOD that He is willing to go through that much pain to save us from death and pain. When we are the heirs of eternal life, physical death is only a quick transition into a kingdom of glory. Besides all this, Scripture promises that Jesus will come to earth in human form a second time. On His second coming, the heavens and the earth will be made new. They will once again be righteous and without pain and sorrow. Creation will be restored to its original perfection! I am so excited for the day that happens!

Quick Scripture references to who we are as a new creation:
You are the light of the world. Matthew 5:14

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. Romans 6:6-8

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:11-14 (and all of Ephesians)

….nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:10-11

Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.Hebrews 2:11

Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:16

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Romans 8:15-17

And many, many other Scriptures! Dig into God’s Word. The truth is soooo good!!!
